The Town of Truckee does not discriminate on the basis of disability in the admissions or access to its programs or activities.

An ADA Coordinator has been designated to coordinate compliance with the non-discrimination requirements contained in the Department of Justice regulations implementing Subtitle A of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (42 USC. 12131), which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability by public agencies.

Discrimination Compliance

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Town will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in the Town's services, programs, or activities.

Employment

The Town of Truckee does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Effective Communication

The Town will generally, upon request and to the extent capable, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate in the Town's programs, services, and activities.

Public Meetings

All Town public meetings are conducted in accessible locations. If you require accommodations to participate in a meeting, these may be requested by calling the Town Clerk at 530-582-2924 at least 72 hours in advance. Copies of documents used in public meetings are available in accessible formats upon request.

Modifications to Policies & Procedures

The Town of Truckee will make reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all Town programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomed in Town offices, even where pets are generally prohibited.

Limitations

The ADA does not require the Town to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.

711 for Telecommunications Relay Service

Telecommunications Relay Services permits persons with a hearing or speech disability to use the telephone system via a text telephone (TTY) or other device to call persons with or without such disabilities.

To make using TRS as simple as possible, you can simply dial 711 to be automatically connected to a TRS operator. It's fast, functional, and free. Dialing 711, both voice and TRS users can initiate a call from any telephone, anywhere in the United States, without having to remember and dial a seven or ten-digit access number.
