Public Transportation

Truckee Transportation Program

The Truckee Transportation Program encompasses the coordination and administration of Truckee public transit, as well as short- and long-term transit planning, multi-modal transportation integration, transportation user safety, and oversight of the Downtown Parking District.

Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART)

Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART) services are operated in Truckee, along with regional services operated by Placer County. The Town currently contracts with Paratransit Services, Inc. to provide fixed route and Dial a Ride transit services, which includes day-to-day management of transit operations and dispatch for the Truckee TART system. The Truckee TART System includes the Truckee Local Route, general public Dial-A-Ride services, as well as complementary Americans with Disabilities Act paratransit services. Regional TART buses operated by Placer County connect Truckee to North Lake Tahoe along Highway 89 and Highway 267, and a seasonal Night Service between Truckee and Northstar is operated seasonally by the Town.

The two newest initiatives that have been introduced in Truckee include the TART Connect on-demand microtransit pilot program, which has been extended to June 2025, and the BCycle E-Bike Share Program, which launched a town-wide pedal assist electric bike share program in the summer of 2023 and returned for a second season in May 2024.

Priorities

Two of the Truckee Town Council's priorities are to invest in key infrastructure and community connectivity to enhance the quality of life for everyone and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and become a leader in environmental sustainability, which are both connected to this program and the initiatives that continue to develop.

Truckee 2040 General Plan Mobility Element

The Truckee2040 General Plan (PDF) recognizes the importance of a well-connected, accessible, equitable, multi-modal transportation system that supports and complements both existing and desired land use patterns and fosters connections between residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and Truckee's trails, open spaces as well as neighboring communities. The Mobility Element (PDF) addresses the critical link between land use and transportation and seeks to prioritize non-automobile transportation to support the Town's mobility and climate action goals through integrated policy that reduces dependency on the private automobile.
