The Town of Truckee, Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, Truckee Donner Public Utility District, Tahoe Forest Health System, Tahoe Truckee Airport District, and the Truckee Chamber of Commerce have joined forces to create an exciting opportunity for local youth to dive deep into the world of technology.

Partners created this new workforce initiative to promote the diverse range of tech-related jobs available to our Truckee and Tahoe students. Truckee North Tahoe Tech Teens (TNT Tech Teens) is a first-of-its-kind month-long series from April 11 through May 9, 2024. The program takes a hands-on learning approach at key locations in our community that will expose local 9th-12th graders to the importance of technology and its crucial role in the success of Truckee.

Students will explore exciting technologies such as surgery robots at Tahoe Forest Health System, Air Traffic Control towers at the Tahoe Truckee Airport, and policing technologies in action at the Town of Truckee, to name a few. The program will allow students to broaden their understanding and appreciation of how the Town and regional partners employ technology to improve security and efficiency. Additionally, it will equip them with skills they can list on a resume for future employment opportunities. We hope to enlighten our youth on the vast range of career opportunities in the world of technology through a "Behind the Scenes" look at how it operates on a local level. Over the five weeks, our goal is to inspire our younger population on how tech is advancing our society and the plethora of jobs available in this field while also providing them with the tools and knowledge to kickstart their careers in technology. This new program benefits students and participating organizations by boosting community engagement, building connections with potential future talent, and nurturing a workforce adept in various modern skills.

"The TNT Tech Teens program aims to empower Truckee and Tahoe's youth with real-world tech skills and insights. Our goal is to inspire and prepare our local students for a future rich with a wide range of careers, right in their own backyard," says the program creator and the Chief Information Security and Technology Officer for the Town of Truckee, Chris Hardy. "I am thankful for the work the TNT Tech Teens partner agencies for making this program a reality and helping to expose our local youth to potential jobs in our community."

Through a career-building workshop woven into the program, students can add their refined skills to their resumes and sharpen their interview skills with the guidance of local professionals in the field. Students who complete the full program will receive a certificate of completion from the Mayor of Truckee.
