Truckee is celebrating its second annual Bike Month this June, and everyone is invited to join in the fun. With activities for families, commuters, and casual riders alike, Bike Month highlights cycling as a healthy, sustainable, and community-minded way to get around.
At the May 27 Town Council meeting, Mayor Jan Zabriskie officially proclaimed June as “Truckee Bike Month.” The proclamation was presented to Truckee Dirt Union, a local nonprofit dedicated to creating and maintaining sustainable mountain bike trails through community engagement, youth education, stewardship, and volunteerism.
Why June?
Although Bike Month is recognized nationally in May, Truckee and the larger Tahoe region celebrate in June to take advantage of better weather and clearer trails. Local and regional partners have come together for over 20 years to encourage biking through community events, challenges, and outreach efforts.
