[ARCHIVED] Budget Update: Planning for Fiscal Year 2025/26

The Town of Truckee’s budget serves as a financial roadmap, ensuring that limited resources are allocated effectively to maintain and enhance core services, support Council priorities, prepare for potential emergencies, and invest in capital projects that benefit the community. Each fiscal year, the Town adopts a new budget, with the upcoming fiscal year beginning on July 1, 2025. The budget development process has been underway since January 2025 and will culminate with Council adoption in June.

Budget Development Process

Internally, Town staff have been drafting their operating budgets and identifying capital project funding needs. The Finance Division is now compiling these requests into a working draft. In April, a series of meetings will take place where each department and division will review their proposals with the Town Manager to ensure alignment with Council priorities and community commitments.

Opportunities for Public Participation

The first opportunity for public engagement in the budget process will be during the April 22, 2025, Town Council meeting, which will include a Budget Workshop immediately following the regular session. This workshop will focus on proposed capital project spending and how these projects align with Council priorities. The workshop presentation will be posted in advance, and community members are encouraged to provide input.

With many deserving projects and limited resources, Council will review staff’s proposed project prioritization to ensure it aligns with community expectations. Following this workshop and internal Town Manager meetings, any necessary revisions will be incorporated into a public-facing draft of the budget.

Finalizing the Budget

The May 27, 2025, Town Council meeting will feature a detailed budget review, giving Council the opportunity to examine funding allocations and project proposals in depth. The draft budget will be posted on the Town website ahead of this meeting as part of the regular agenda publication. Community members will be able to submit public comments online in advance or provide feedback in person during the meeting.

New for Fiscal Year 2025/26

This year, the Town is introducing an enhanced online budget platform featuring a dynamic hyperlinked table of contents for easier navigation. A PDF version of the budget book will also be available for those who prefer a traditional format.
